Calling All Chocoholics

Chocolate Cupcakes with Nutella Frosting

Chocolate Cupcakes with Nutella Frosting

I was in charge of dessert for our latest thanksgiving dinner and my sister requested something with chocolate, but of course in addition to, not in exchange of pie and ice cream. Yup my family loves food! So I made these and they were gobbled up with one guest proclaiming “This is decadent!” after one bite.

Not just for the holidays, these are for days when a simple chocolate bar isn’t enough but a chocolate cupcake is needed. These cupcakes are super moist with a beautiful chocolate and fluffy icing. I found this recipe at one of  my favourite dessert websites, Sweetapolita. You have been warned though, this is a super sweet dessert, not for the faint of hearts

For decorations, as it was Thanksgiving I used these cute printables, attaching them to cake pop sticks. Also for the first time I tried PaperChef’s Parchment Tulip Cups. They are bigger so I was only able to yield nine cupcakes instead of 12 as per the recipe for standard size cupcakes. I thought they were a cute departure from the usual cupcake silhouette, (plus they have new colours, fun!) so will use them again. And to finish these cuties off, I tied a simple bow as a gift for each of the guests.

Nutella Cloud Frosting
  1. With a electric mixer use a paddle attachment and mix icing sugar and butter until creamy and smooth.
  2. Add vanilla and melted, cooled chocolate. Mix for two minutes.
  3. Add Nutella, milk and pinch of salt. Mix for one minute.
  4. Decorate cupcakes once they are completely cooled. Enjoy!
  1. I rarely have butter milk at home so I use this substitute: One cup of milk with one tablespoon of regular vinegar. I have used it with various recipes and it works great. Just combine and wait five minutes. The consistence will thicken up a bit and ready to be used in any recipe.
  2. If you are going to frost the cupcakes a day or morning before day of serving, keep them cool due to the butter base.
