I am one of those people that love parties or any get together for that matter. Love meeting new people, seeing old friends and catching up in general. Weddings, Birthdays, BBQs … but I especially love parties that include a new adventure for the people hosting the fete. Be it an Engagement Party or Baby Shower. It’s just so nice to be part of something with such a lovely future. I was recently invited to a Housewarming Party and as a gift I made my friend and her fiancé a potted kitchen herb garden. It was so much fun to make and it was a beautiful day to go to the garden centre and spend it outside.
List of Material:
- Assortment of herbs
- A pot (I used a silver pail)
- Gardening Gloves
- Garden pruners or scissors
- Garden Plant Markers
Step 1: Make a Mess
Fill pot/pail with soil, about 3/4 way up. Place container of herbs in pot just to see placement and such. I prefer taller plants in the back (i.e. Basil) with floppier ones in the front (i.e. Thyme) just cause it flow nicer. Remember how you want to plant them, place the plants aside and make little holes in the pot/pail in areas you want the plants. Gently take the herbs out of their containers and loosen the soil around their base slightly and insert in planned area. And then top with more soil.
Step 2: Final touches
Trim the herbs as you need to. Label each plant marker and place in soil next to herb. Add a ribbon around the pot/pail and sit back and enjoy.
I used various herbs but a themed herb garden would be just as sweet. Maybe next time I will try a Italian themed herb garden with addition of olive oil and fresh pasta, or one specialized for a tea drinker with mint, chocolate peppermint or lemon balm.
